Every year, Tanabata offers children a wonderful opportunity to experience one of Japan’s most cherished seasonal traditions. 🌟 Through songs, stories, creative activities, and shared celebrations, children begin to understand that festivals are more than special events—they are ways communities pass on culture, traditions, and hopes from one generation to the next. At Beyondia Ikebukuro, we believe these authentic cultural experiences help children develop curiosity, respect for different traditions, and a deeper appreciation of the world around them.
毎年七夕は、子どもたちが日本の季節の文化に親しむことができる大切な行事です。🌟 歌や物語、制作活動、お祭り遊びを通して、子どもたちは「行事」は楽しいイベントであるだけでなく、人々が願いや文化を受け継いできた大切な伝統であることを少しずつ学んでいきます。Beyondia Ikebukuroでは、このような本物の文化体験を通して、さまざまな文化への興味や尊重する心を育んでいます。
The school was filled with excitement from the moment the children arrived, proudly dressed in colourful yukata and jinbei. 👘 Their beautiful summer outfits helped create a festive atmosphere throughout the day, while teachers also joined the celebration in traditional clothing. Before the festivities began, many children enjoyed taking photographs with friends and exploring the classroom, making memories they will no doubt treasure for years to come. 📸
登園すると、子どもたちは色とりどりの浴衣や甚平姿を嬉しそうに見せてくれました。👘 先生たちも浴衣や甚平を着て過ごし、園全体がいつもとは少し違う、特別なお祭りの雰囲気に包まれました。お友だちや先生と写真を撮ったり、嬉しそうに過ごしたりする姿もたくさん見られ、思い出に残る一日の始まりとなりました。📸
Throughout the day, the children explored the traditions of Tanabata in a variety of meaningful ways. 🎶 They sang the Tanabata song they had been practising, listened carefully to the story of Orihime and Hikoboshi, and reflected on the wishes they had written for their tanzaku decorations. By experiencing the story behind the festival, children were able to connect their own hopes and dreams with a tradition that has been celebrated across Japan for generations. ⭐
子どもたちは、これまで練習してきた七夕の歌をみんなで歌い、織姫と彦星のお話を楽しみました。🎶 また、短冊に込めた願い事にも思いを寄せながら、七夕という行事の意味に親しみました。昔から受け継がれてきた物語に触れることで、自分たちの願いと日本の文化を結び付けて考える貴重な機会となりました。⭐
One of the highlights of the celebration was the traditional yo-yo fishing activity. 🎈 The younger children carefully scooped colourful balloons using ladles, while the older children challenged themselves with hooks that required greater concentration and coordination. Whether successful on the first try or after several attempts, every child approached the activity with determination and excitement. Laughter, encouragement, and proud smiles could be seen all around as children celebrated both their own achievements and those of their friends. 😊
お楽しみのヨーヨー釣りでは、年齢に合わせた方法で挑戦しました。🎈 小さなお友だちはおたまを使い、年長のお友だちはS字フックを使って慎重にヨーヨーを釣り上げます。簡単には取れなくても諦めずに挑戦し、取れた時にはとびきりの笑顔を見せてくれました。友だち同士で喜び合い、応援し合う姿もたくさん見られました。😊
Creative expression was also an important part of the celebration. 🎨 Across the school, children completed beautiful Tanabata-inspired artwork, including colourful fox masks, personalised uchiwa fans, and decorations that reflected their own ideas and personalities. Each creation was unique, reminding us that while festivals bring communities together, they also provide opportunities for every child to express themselves in their own way. 🦊
制作活動では、七夕をテーマにした作品づくりにも取り組みました。🎨 キツネのお面やうちわなど、それぞれの年齢に合わせた活動を通して、子どもたちは自由な発想で作品を完成させました。一人ひとり違った表現が生まれ、同じ行事を楽しみながらも、それぞれの個性が輝く素敵な作品となりました。🦊
Celebrations like Tanabata remind us that learning extends far beyond the classroom. 💙 By experiencing traditions together, children build a sense of belonging while developing an appreciation for the customs and stories that shape different cultures.
