There is something truly magical about watching children care for a living creature. 🪲 Since welcoming a kabutomushi (Japanese rhinoceros beetle) into their classroom, Pumpkin and Peanut Classes have been filled with curiosity, excitement, and gentle hands eager to observe their newest little friend. What began as a simple classroom addition has quickly become a meaningful opportunity for children to develop empathy, responsibility, and a deeper appreciation for the natural world.

生き物のお世話をする経験は、子どもたちにとって特別な学びの時間です。🪲 パンプキンクラスとピーナッツクラスにカブトムシが仲間入りしてから、子どもたちは毎日のように「今日は元気かな？」「何をしているのかな？」と興味津々で観察しています。新しい仲間との出会いを通して、思いやりや責任感、そして自然への関心が少しずつ育まれています。

Every day, the children gather around the habitat to see what their beetle is doing. 👀 Some notice how it climbs the wood, while others carefully watch it burrow into the soil or enjoy its jelly. The children eagerly share their discoveries with one another, pointing out even the smallest movements and asking thoughtful questions. These simple moments encourage scientific thinking as children learn to observe carefully, make predictions, and recognise that living things have their own needs and behaviours.

毎日、子どもたちはケースの周りに集まり、カブトムシの様子を観察しています。👀 木を登る姿や土にもぐる様子、ゼリーを食べる姿など、小さな変化にも気付き、「今日はここにいるよ！」「動いた！」と嬉しそうに教え合っています。こうした経験を通して、観察する力や「どうしてだろう？」と考える探究心が自然と育っています。

Looking after the classroom beetle also helps children understand that caring for another living thing is an important responsibility. 💛 Together, they help make sure it has food, a safe home, and a calm environment. Through these daily routines, the children are learning that animals depend on us to treat them with kindness and respect, nurturing a sense of responsibility that reaches beyond the classroom.

また、お世話をする中で、「生き物には優しく接すること」や「命を大切にすること」も学んでいます。💛 ごはんを用意したり、静かに観察したり、安全なおうちを保ったりすることで、「自分たちがお世話をしている」という責任感も少しずつ芽生えてきました。

One of the most special moments has been watching the children’s faces light up as the kabutomushi slowly explores its surroundings. ✨ There are smiles, whispers of excitement, and wide eyes full of wonder.
